This Week's Tutorials

Necron Tomb World Scenery

Our first tutorial of the week is a focused look at the ancient and glowing  Necron Tomb Scenery for Games Workshop’s Kill Team Tomb World set, which breathes life into an eerie and soulless realm.

In this video, we show you a great way of painting the scenery set by focusing on a piece of the wall that allows us to cover all the important features, including the iconic green gauss glow.

In this video we show you:
  • How to easily establish the two main colours of the wall; the green alien metal and flaking stone exterior.
  • The best way to shade and highlight these two colours together that allows you to correct mistakes as you go.
  • A great way to pick out the all-important green glowing orbs complete with object-source lighting, a vital part of any Necron miniature!
  • How to swiftly paint the lightning across the doorway whilst steel keeping it removable for gameplay.
Whilst we focus on the one wall piece in the video, the techniques used can be applied across the whole set to create a fantastic battlefield for gaming. You can see the full video now!

New Addition to the DRPA

For a bit of fun, we thought we’d release our taster audio podcast we lovingly titled Episode 0 – Chaos! It of course has zero to do with the faction but more to do with us finding our feet and learning the tools. So join your host Joe who is joined by Dunc and Rog as they navigate their way through the wonderful world of podcasting!

Our plan is to release an episode every week on a Wednesday for Members to listen to whilst they relax and hobby.

Tutorial of the Month!

Miao Ying in Dragon Form

Our tutorial of the week is the second part of the Miao Ying spotlight from Games Workshop’s Warhammer: The Old World, focusing on her terrifying true form, the Storm Dragon.

In this video, we show you a great way to paint Miao Ying as a mighty dragon, paying particular attention to her deep purple and black scales to blend her terrifying presence with beauty and elegance.

In this video we show you:
  • What sub-assemblies we recommend and how these help with undercoating the model to get you off to a great start.
  • A fantastic way of achieving the deep purple and black scales, including a close look at how to get the smooth gradients from one tone to another by using easy to replicate techniques.
  • An explanation of key things to consider to get an even and consistent finish across the colours on her body.
  • How to paint her white purple-tinted hair in a straightforward and satisfying manner.
  • A guide to painting the fine details on her head such as the teeth, gums, eyes and more, including what order to approach them so as not to make any of them difficult to access.
  • How to paint the pink gems decorating her armour and crown.
Miao Ying makes for a fantastic project for anyone looking to paint a centrepiece for a Cathayan army, or for anyone looking to paint a mighty dragon! You can see the full video now.
